When I came to this workshop, I came in with the mindset that I only wanted to do print news. I wanted to get my degree and land a spot at a newspaper for the 'typical' job. As the days progressed, I started blogging and realized that I really love the way it works. Not only have I developed a love for social media, I have also learned a lot about what I wouldn't want to make my career focus.
I always knew that people blogged for money and made a career out of it, but I never really understood why. Why would you want to write online? Nobody really reads that stuff, right? Wrong. Now more than ever people are getting their news from social media. You can get a lot of hype if you spread yourself out and conquer different platforms/websites.
I would have to say I'm incredibly inspired by Lici Beveridge and her dedication to her work. She has really made a name for herself. I don't know about you, but it takes a strong and passionate person to stick with this field for as many years as she has. In the years to come I will strive to be the best I can possibly be and get as much experience as possible. One does not become a Lici Beveridge by sitting around, waiting for a handout, and keeping their mouth shut.
Although the allure of print will always capture my curiosity, I just believe that at this point social media is where I need to focus my attention. Where ever my heart leads, that is where I'll go. Who knows, I might completely change and end up becoming a baker. Unless you can make very opinionated cookies, I wouldn't bank on it.
