As part of our workshop, we are getting a great opportunity. We have the privilege of showing "Freedom Summer," a documentary screened at the Sundance Film Festival. It provides a good overview of what Freedom Summer was and its significance to Mississippi and the nation.
The screening is at 7 p.m. in Stout Hall B on the Hattiesburg campus. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Admission is free.
The documentary was screened May 29 at the Saenger Theater in Hattiesburg, and we were fortunate to get a screening before it airs on PBS June 24.
Check out the trailer below. Hope to see you there! I'll be there along with all the participants of our high school journalism workshop.-- Gina Chen, USM assistant professor and workshop director
