As a participant in the USM High School Journalism Workshop, I had the privilege of interviewing five very interesting journalists from Hattiesburg and the surrounding areas. Although every journalist was different, they all brought excellent advice, life experiences, and maybe a little intimidation. One thing is for certain -- none of them sugar coated the lifestyle we would be jumping into sooner than we realize. Personally, I couldn't jump faster enough. Only problem is that baby birds who jump without learning all they can first usual tend to land very harshly.
Fortunately, Lici Beveridge the digital and social media editor for Hattiesburg America sat with me afterwards during lunch and really encouraged me to persevere and stay the course. Although not every day will be sunshine and rainbows, there will be days that make up for it. One thing we both agree on is that for every negative aspect there is something equally as positive to come if you look for it. In the great words of Albus Dumbledore, "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
