After an exhausting, yet productive day, we are all anticipating the eventful week that awaits us. From 7:45 this morning when we had our first mouth-watering college breakfast, to the 7:00 evening showing of the inspiring and eye-opening documentary Freedom Summer, the knowledge obtained over the course of the day has given us an introduction to the journalism world . Throughout the day, we learned the basics of journalism, ranging from defining what journalism is to a quick lesson in photo journalism from Southern Miss professors. We attained several interview tips and tricks with USM professor Robby Byrd, as well as a group panel discussion with five noteworthy journalists who work throughout the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast communities. The experience gave us all a real life feel for what it takes to be a successful journalist. After lunch, we captured every aspect of the campus with sweat dripping down our faces and our Canon cameras secured around our necks. We would like give a big thanks to our wonderful mentors and chaperones for challenging us to photograph different and unique aspects of the campus and encouraging us to step out of our comfort zone when interviewing our subjects. (Shout out to Yolanda and Jonathan...and of course Dr. Chen, yaaaaaas!)
